Nordic Update

The Gas line is complete and the nordic track is back to normal. The supplemental line was installed back in the original trench. There is a little bit of cleanup that will be done after the snow melts away in the springtime.

On another note, It is hard to think about golf while the snow continues to pile up around here. However, it is always nice to be reminded of how the game of golf can be cool. I was forwarded this link to a cool video from the European Tour. Click here to view.

Figuring It Out

No more mowing rough by the maintenance staff here in Vail. We'll save lots on labor dollars. With this new product on sale in golf shops everywhere, we just may have zero need to mow anything again. Click here for golf's latest and greatest technological advancement.

Disobeying Signs

Yesterday we had some golfers sneak out to some of our closed holes. The Vail GCM staff was tired of policing the area, so we had to bring out the "enforcer".
We have 13 great holes for play and it has been fairly busy out there.

Neighbors

One neighbor came for a visit yesterday. He was unsuccessful with lunch but he got in a few good chest rubs! It's that time of year to see bears around the property. If you encounter a black bear, have no fear, they are only aggressive when they have something to be concerned about. Usually ignoring them and staying out of their way is the best medicine.

Lessons

If you visit this site often, more than anything you probably love the game of golf. At a time where the game is considered flat, lessons are probably the most important aspect of the game. Yesterday, the Golf Staff here at Vail Golf Club very generously provided quick lessons yesterday to the entire Maintenance Staff. It was extremely helpful and enjoyed by everyone. I stood cautiously on the opposite side of the net to get a photo.
It was a great opportunity for both ends of the staff at Vail Golf Club to draw closer. The Golf Staff sees what maintenance does each day to prepare the course, this provided an excellent avenue for us to see exactly what the Golf Staff does at their best. All of us in Maintenance land were certainly impressed. Thank you to Jeanne, Drew, Chris and Andy.

A Great Story

My brother sent this story to me recently published in the Boston Globe. It is a fascinating story of a group of friends who experience humanity at its best on their way to play a few rounds of golf. Click here to read it.

A Time For Laughs

I gladly caught a piece of this action at the clubhouse yesterday. Here is Director of Golf, Alice Plain "taking it out" on Drew Fournier, an Assistant Pro. They were experimenting with this Velcro suit. A really exciting kid's game for the summer, chipping Velcro tennis balls at your favorite pro. Lots of laughs were had, I can't wait to see the kids get a hold of this. Drew, you are a champ!

Almost there

Just wanted to send a "shout out" to James Driscoll who was the runner up to Zach Johnson at the Valero Texas Open this past weekend. I haven't heard that name in a long time, however I became glued to the TV when I remembered. He is a native of Brookline, MA and I used to watch him in high school play at The Country Club, where I was a greenskeeper. If I remember correctly, he won a state championship or two. He would play, I would mow.

A Second Home

It's marmot season. They are out and ready to greet golfers. They too, have a second home here in Vail. For a limited time only, soon we hope this pipe gets in the ground.
